About us

On September 26th, 2015 at 8:15 we disembarked the MV Hjaltland and arrived to Shetland for the first time.

A few weeks earlier we were hiking the West highland way and my wife who is a knitter saw that there is a thing called "Wool Week" in a place called "Shetland".
She said that she wants to visit it so I said "Why not?".
We fell in love with the place at first sight.
We then fell in love with the people.

In July 2021 we visited Shetland for the 5th time and fell in love with the South Lodberrie after spending a month at the house.
After back and forth discussions with the lovely owners, Ingrid and Mike we decided to buy it.

We plan on living at the house most of the year but the house will be available for weekly rentals from the first Saturday on November to the last Saturday on June.

The South Lodberrie

This is a unique house, both in its location and design. Originally formed from three historic Lodberrie properties, and in a conservation area, overlooking the very unique Lodberrie famous for being the Jimmy Perez house in the popular TV series titled "Shetland".

The present building was internally reconstructed in the early 80s to provide a large first floor lounge with balcony overlooking the harbour area and the Island of Bressay, upstairs bathroom, upstairs bedroom, downstairs double bedroom with en suite shower room/toilet, and a luxury kitchen/dining room. The house is geared up to and restricted to cater for two people seeking high quality accommodation in the heart of Lerwick. With complimentary broadband access it is equally suitable for short term business use. South Lodberrie is available to let throughout the year on a weekly basis from 2 pm on the Saturday until 10 am on the following Saturday. Due to its layout and facilities, it is unsuitable for those with limited mobility or for children and while perfectly suitable for 2 we would allow up to 4 people to occupy the house with advance notice, there is no extra charge. We regret that we are also unable to accept pets. The house is strictly non-smoking throughout.

Spread over two floors, the ground floor contains a designer kitchen/dining room with beautiful views to the Island of Bressay, and the master bedroom with luxury shower room and toilet. There is partial underfloor heating in both the kitchen/dining room and the shower room. The kitchen has a top quality range of appliances including an induction hob, freezer, refrigerator, double oven, washer/drier, dish washer, and an instant boiling water Quooker tap. Set out into the sea, the bedroom has two windows overlooking the stone beach and Lodberrie to the north and the Harbour area.

On the upper floor you will find the second bedroom, and a spacious and bright lounge with private and secluded balcony to the rear from which you can watch the Harbour activities including the occasional Tallship. There are two triple sofas and an armchair around the fireplace area, and a separate computer desk area to one corner. There is also the main bathroom.

We aim to provide a homely and comfortable base for couples seeking top quality accommodation. If you have any specific questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

There are local shops only a few minutes walk along Commercial Street towards the Harbour where local provisions are available. There are also two main supermarkets in Lerwick, one on the north side (The Co-op) and one on the south (Tesco). There is no designated parking at the house, but there is generally ample on street parking close at hand, including a public parking space immediately opposite the front door which we normally use when here. If you have specific needs, please ask us when enquiring about availability.
